Wednesday 9th April

Hi all,

NB: We are now on our Easter Break.
Our next meeting is on the 30th April.

This week as always we kicked off with footdrill.
We learnt how to fall in two and three deep. A bit more practice and it will be second nature to us.

Ray came down with his hair dyed blue!!
So we asked him why and he told us it was for the “Shave or Dye to support cancer research.
More information can be found HERE
After collecting our weekly subs we donated it to Ray to help his cause.

We then discussed our Code of Conduct. We reminded everyone that this was drawn up by the Cubs themselves and everyone including the Leaders signed it. After Easter we will review it again and ask any of our new Cubs to sign.

We then learnt how to tie the “Reef Knot”
The Reef Knot is used to tie two pieces of rope the same thickness together and to tie a sling.
It is also the knot on the World Scout Badge which we all have on our uniforms.
We then learnt about the parts of a rope and the importance of not standing on rope especially when rock climbing or abseiling.

We finished off with grand howl and a 2 week Easter Break.
We will be back on the 30th April

Wednesday 2nd April

Hi all,

This week we carried on with our footdrill.
We learned how to fall in two deep and then back into single file.
After that we did our “lessons learned” from the Newgrange Hostel.

We asked everyone for one thing they liked and didn’t like about the hostel.
It’s part of our plan do review

After that we discussed how best to pack a rucksack.
We should pack it ourselves, making sure we tick everything off the kit list.
We should be able to carry it ourselves. We need to think about what we will need first when we reach our destination, swim gear, uniform, pyjamas etc.

After that we played bucket ball.

We finished up with a badge presentation, Sixer, Seconder, Investiture, and Adventure Skills badges were all given out and were well earned.

We did Grand Howl and headed off into the rain.
