For the cub summer camp this year we will be going to Powerscourt from Friday 24th May to Sunday 26th May (2 nights) weather permitting. The cost of the camp is €40.
The cubs were given a kit list of what to bring with them for the camp and as we hope to do water activities please ensure that they have plenty of old clothes (including socks and runners/sandals) to change into. A wet suit would be perfect but please don’t feel the need to buy one just for the weekend. We will meet in Powerscourt at 7.30pm on Friday and finish at 12.30pm on Sunday, if your child needs to leave the camp for football etc. please let the Leaders know in advance.
Each cub has been given a “permission to camp” form. Please ensure that this has been filled in and returned as cubs will not be allowed to camp if we don’t have this information.
If you have any questions or worries please feel free to contact any of the leaders at the numbers below. Please note that the camp will be held weather permitting, it’s no fun camping in the lashing rain so we will postpone if there is bad weather expected.
There are a few ways that Parents could assist us with the weekend:-
If anyone was free on Friday morning that can come to Powerscourt to help us set up the campsite
We will need lifts to Powerscourt Waterfall and back on Saturday afternoon, if you wanted to bring your children as well entry is free
On Sunday we’ll need help bringing gear back to the den and unloading it.
Also, on Sunday we need offers to bring home a black bin bag of rubbish
The theme of the camp is The Wild Frontier. The Cubs will be either an Indian tribe or a Cowboy. The Leaders will be given names etc. Geronimo, Sitting Bull etc and will only be known by that name over the weekend. Powerscourt will be called Powerscourt Creek and we will have a ranch for the cowboys and a plain for the Indians. The food tent will be known as the Chuck Wagon, tents are tepees, toilets will be outhouses and meals will be known as chow. We will have various activities like gold panning in the river, backwoods skills, tin can alley etc.
