Glendalough – Latest Details

The Cubs will be going to Glendalough International Youth Hostel on Saturday 23rd February 2013.  We will meet at the hostel on the Saturday at 11.00am, stay overnight and finish at the hostel at 12.30pm on Sunday 24th February.  The cost will be €35.00 (total for siblings is €60.)

The Cubs will be sleeping in dormitories in various room sizes of 4 beds, 6 beds or 8 beds (mostly bunk-beds with duvets and pillows provided).  The bedrooms are all en-suite with showers.  There is a tv/video in a common room.  The Cubs have been given a PC (Permission) form which must be filled out and returned to any of the Leaders.  Please find enclosed a kit list which details what the Cubs should bring with them.

On arrival at the hostel the Cubs will leave their bags in a large meeting room and we will be heading off on a hike shortly afterwards, therefore they should bring a separate small rucksack or bag with lunch, wet gear and a drink in it.  They should also wear runners/shoes/hiking boots suitable for a walk.  If you cannot be at the hostel by 11am, please let us know as all the Leaders will be going on the hike and won’t be back until later in the day.

Glendalough Hostel 23rd – 24th February

Hi all,

The Cubs will be going to Glendalough International Youth Hostel on Saturday 23rd February 2013. We will meet at the hostel on the Saturday at 11am, stay overnight and finish at the hostel at 12.30pm on Sunday 24th February.

They should bring a packed lunch, drink and wet gear in a small ruc-sack and arrive ready to go on a hike on the Saturday.

The cost will be €35.00 (total for siblings is €60)

Wednesday 6th February

Hi all,

This week we practiced out footdrill again, standing at alert, at ease and we then fell in two deep and back in to single file.

We played ladders twice and managed to escape unharmed.

We discussed fire safety both at home and in the Den.
We need to make sure to check the smoke alarms at home and ensure that everyone in the house knows what to do and where to go in the case of a fire.

The signal to evacuate the Den is 3 short blasts on a whistle by a Leader.
The meeting point for Cubs is at the Anchor Statue in the harbor. 

We have to make our way out of the den using one of the three fire escapes in an orderly fashion making sure not to stop for coats etc.
We make our way to the Anchor and stay there in our sixes to make sure the Leaders can account for everyone.

Sixers and Seconders should take note of how many of their Six is down each night.

No one once out is allowed to return to the Den until giving the all clear by the fire services.

We will carry out a fire drill in the next month,
